Ignite Your Inner Magic: Simple Imbolc and Lughnasadh Rituals with Brigid and Lugh

Do you ever feel the pull to reconnect with your spiritual path, to realign with nature and the divine energies that support your creativity, courage, and purpose?

That’s exactly what the Sabbats of Imbolc and Lughnasadh offer us: a sacred invitation to awaken, harvest, and honour the cycles within and around us. These two points on the Wheel of the Year are potent times to work with the Goddess Brigid and the God Lugh. Of course, we can connect with the divine anytime, but Sabbats mark powerful turning points in the seasonal cycle and help us ground our magickal practice in the rhythm of the Earth.

Let me show you two simple rituals you can perform—one for Imbolc and one for Lughnasadh—to ignite your inner light and harvest your power.

Walking the Path: How It Began for Me

When I first began practising witchcraft over 35 years ago, resources were scarce—there was no internet, and only a few books were available. One of the most influential was Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham. His simple sabbat rituals helped me connect to my witch self, to the natural world, and to something greater than myself.

Even the simplest rituals served as sacred reminders: I am part of nature, part of spirit, and full of magickal potential.

Honouring the Land You Live On

Before diving into the rituals, I want to highlight something important: The traditional dates for the Sabbats come from Northern Europe, where the seasons are very distinct. But if you're in the Southern Hemisphere like me, the seasonal energies are quite different.

Imbolc, traditionally celebrated around February 1 in the North, is celebrated around August 1 here in the South. Lughnasadh is flipped—August 1 in the North, and February 1 in the South. These are flexible guideposts, not rigid rules. Wherever you are, honour the land beneath your feet and the seasonal changes happening around you.

🔥 Imbolc Ritual with Brigid – Reignite Your Inner Flame

Imbolc marks the return of light. It’s a time to kindle your inner fire and invite inspiration back after the quiet introspection of winter.

Brigid—also known as Bri, Bríde, or Brighid—is the goddess of hearth, home, healing, creativity, and sacred fire. She is the flame that lights us from within.

Here’s a simple ritual you can do to connect with her:

You’ll Need:

  • A white candle (symbolising the return of light)

  • Milk (a traditional offering at Imbolc—any kind of milk is fine)

  • A quiet space (circle optional)

The Ritual:

  1. Cleanse your space and light the white candle.

  2. Gaze into the flame and reflect: Where do I want more light in my life? What is inspiring me right now?

  3. Imagine Brigid’s presence—perhaps as you’ve seen her in art, in vision, or as a warm energy.

  4. Say this invocation:

“Brigid, radiant flame of inspiration and healing,
Goddess of hearth and home, keeper of sacred fire,
I call upon your gentle light to awaken sparks within me.
Bless my intentions, nurture my growth,
    And guide my creative heart.
May your flame burn bright in my soul this Imbolc and always.”

  5. Sit in meditation and feel into her energy. You may receive insights through feelings, images, or subtle thoughts.

  6. Offer the milk:
“Thank you, Brigid, for your guidance and light. Blessed be.”

Let the candle burn down safely, or place it in a window as a traditional Imbolc lantern if possible.

🌾 Lughnasadh Ritual with Lugh – Harvest Your Power

Lughnasadh is the first harvest—a time to celebrate the fruits of your labour and acknowledge how far you’ve come.

Lugh is the god of light, skill, creativity, and strength. He’s the warrior who encourages us to shine boldly and embrace our talents.

Here’s a simple ritual you can do to honour him:

You’ll Need:

  • A yellow candle (symbolising solar energy and abundance)

  • Breadcrumbs, bread, grain, or local fruit (as a harvest offering)

The Ritual:

  1. Cleanse your space and light the yellow candle.

  2. Reflect: What have I been working toward? What am I beginning to harvest? Where do I need courage to continue?

  3. Imagine Lugh standing before you—radiant, strong, and encouraging.

  4. Say this invocation:

“Lugh, shining warrior and master of all arts,
Bearer of the radiant sun and champion of skill,
I honour your strength and the gifts you bestow.
Accept this humble offering of my harvest and growth.
Grant me courage to embrace my talents,
    Wisdom to refine them,
And the light to walk boldly into my power.”

  5. Meditate and commune with Lugh. You might feel strength rise in your body or receive an idea or vision.

  6. Offer the breadcrumbs or food with thanks:
“Thank you, Lugh, for your presence and inspiration. Blessed be.”

You can snuff the candle or relight it daily for the next 6 weeks to stay connected to Lugh’s energy.
