The Wound That Lives in Your Body: How to Release the Fear of Being Seen and Reclaim Your Power
There is a moment most of us know well.
You feel something stir — a knowing, a pull toward your power — and then, almost before you can name it, something quieter steps in.
A tightening.
A pause.
A retreat into the version of yourself that feels just a little bit safer.
It doesn’t look dramatic.
It might be:
-
Staying quiet when you could speak
-
Closing your practice journal before anyone notices
-
Saying “I just do a bit of meditation” when asked about your path
But underneath that small act of hiding… something real is happening.
And it’s worth paying attention to.
As we move into Samhain here in the Southern Hemisphere, the veil thins.
What has been buried begins to rise.
And for many of us, what rises is this:
A deep, old fear of being seen in our full power.
What Is the Witch Wound (Really)?
The witch wound is not just an idea.
It’s not something you can think your way out of.
It is a felt experience.
It lives in your body.
In your nervous system.
In that split-second moment where you reach forward… and then pull back.
Even when you understand the history
Even when you can name the pattern
Even when you know better
…something in you still chooses safety over expansion.
That’s not failure.
That’s conditioning.
Your body learned — somewhere along the way — that being fully seen in your power was not safe.
So it adapted:
-
Stay small
-
Stay quiet
-
Stay hidden
And over time, that response became automatic.
How This Pattern Shows Up
You might recognise yourself in one (or all) of these:
1. The Fear of Being Seen
You practice privately. Deeply. Beautifully.
But you don’t speak about it.
There’s always a part of you that stays hidden.
The belief underneath:
If people really see me, something will go wrong.
2. The Fear of Your Own Power
Your magic feels inconsistent.
Not because you aren’t capable —
but because something in you pulls back just as things begin to open.
The belief underneath:
Power is dangerous. People like me don’t get to have it safely.
3. The Fear of the Wound Itself
You understand all of this.
You’ve read. You’ve reflected. You’re aware.
But you stay at the edges.
Learning. Watching. Not fully stepping in.
Because stepping in means feeling what’s been held there.
Grief. Fear. Memory.
None of this is a flaw.
These are survival responses.
Your body is doing exactly what it learned to do.
The work is not to force it.
The work is to gently show it another way.
Five Ways to Begin Releasing the Witch Wound
This is slow, embodied work.
But every time you meet it with awareness, something shifts.
1. Name the Pattern (Without Judgment)
Start by noticing when you shrink.
Not to fix it — just to witness it.
Keep a small journal nearby and ask:
-
What just happened?
-
Where did I feel it in my body?
Awareness begins the release.
2. Work With Your Body (Not Just Your Mind)
When the tightening happens, try this:
-
One hand on your heart
-
One hand on your belly
-
Three slow breaths
Then say:
I am safe right now.
I am allowed to take up space.
You are not forcing the fear away.
You are teaching your body something new.
3. Use EFT Tapping
Tapping works directly with body-held fear.
As you tap through the points, you speak what you’re actually feeling.
Even something simple like:
“Even though I’m afraid to be seen… I’m open to feeling safe now.”
Five minutes can begin to shift patterns that thinking alone cannot reach.
4. Create Small Acts of Visibility
This is where real change happens.
Not through big declarations — but through consistent, gentle exposure.
This might look like:
-
Lighting a candle openly on your desk
-
Wearing something meaningful in public
-
Speaking one true sentence about your path
You are showing your nervous system:
It is safe to be seen — in small, steady ways.
5. Work With Your Lineage
Some of what you carry… isn’t only yours.
Create a simple space and ask:
-
Who in my lineage had to hide?
-
What did they lose by staying unseen?
Light a candle.
Write a letter.
Acknowledge what was carried.
Healing moves in both directions.
I want to speak to you directly for a moment.
I spent years shrinking.
Not fully hiding — but never fully stepping forward either.
And I’ve been a witch for over 35 years.
So if this lives in you too… you are not behind.
You are not broken.
You are not doing it wrong.
The fact that you’re here — noticing, reflecting, questioning —
that already takes courage.
This path is not about fixing yourself.
It’s about learning how to support yourself
as you expand into who you already are.
